What to do in Shanghai at night?

5 Answer(s)

Yu Feng:When it comes to Shanghai at night. The locals will immediately recall a song <Ye Shanghai (Shanghai Nights)> by Xuan Zhou, a famous Chinese singer and film actress in the 40s. The song describes the progressive and charming part of Shanghai. It is also the initiation stage of jazz music emerged in China. You may have heard the song:

Shanghai Nights - Xuan Zhou

“Shanghai nights, Shanghai nights, you are a city that never sleeps
Bright lights, sounds of cars, singing and dancing
Just seeing her smiling face, who knows of her inner sorrow?
Nightlife is just as important as food, shelter and transport
Alcohol doesn't make people drunk, they make themselves drunk
Troubled sky and earth, wasted youth
The hazy light of dawn makes everyone's eyes tired
The soul returns with the turning of car wheels
She finds a new world, not a new environment
The aftertaste of nightlife like waking from a dream”

I recommend going to Peace Hotel Old Jazz Bar to experience the Jazz which can take you to Shanghai in the 1940s.

Charlotte Zhu: For me, it’s horrible in summers and winters (December-February; July-August).

In winter, it’s cold and wet. And one of my Iceland friends said he felt it’s colder than Iceland.
In summer, it’s super hot and wet. Sometimes it’s raining for weeks.

Other seasons are pretty nice. Enjoy the short spring and autumn in Shanghai!

How to buy tickets of Shanghai-Beijing train?

1 Answer(s)

N Cheetah : You can go to Trip.com and book the train ticket online. You can choose seats and you will receive an email with Ticket Pickup number. When you get to the train station in China, go to special counters for your ticket collection, in Chinese characters (取票窗口 or 取票专口). You just show the ticket pickup number and your passport to the staff.

Once getting your ticket, go to the train hall and wait for boarding.

I recommend going to station for 1 hour in advance if you are not familiar with the ticket collection process.

Cell X:Originally there were only Traditional moon cakes like the Egg yolk moon cake and Lotus seed cake. Now there are also modern snow-skin moon cakes and meat moon cakes.

The moon cakes are getting more expensive and fancy since it becomes a commodity gift for families and friends.

Because of the cultural renaissance, different regions in China begin to bake different forms of moon cakes. Even some brands are starting to make their own moon cakes.( Starbucks, Disney etc)

What’s the most significant change of life during last 10 years in Beijing?

3 Answer(s)

MengY Xu:The impact of air pollution on people’s life and mindset in Beijing.

From blue sky ten years ago to Beijing og of 2011 to 2018, to the return of the most blue sky days in 2019. It’s the storyline of developing countries polluting the air for the sake of development and then trying to save it somewhere. Beijing is surrounded by manufacturing cities like Hebei, and itself has more and more cars in the last ten years. It seems the emerge of air pollution to be inevitable here.

However, maybe you can't find a second place in the world that finishes this “pollute and save cycle” within then years. Since 2017, there are many measures in Beijing and nearby cities to reduce co2 emission and the use of plastics. It’s not perfect yet, but Beijing locals like us who have personal experiences with the air pollution have stronger will to stop it.
